The inaugural State of State conference included a presentation by NVS member Steve Garguilo. As promised, here is the video of Steve’s talk. It is under 10 minutes long and well worth your time.
One of the most (of many) rewarding aspects of my journey with The Nittany Valley Society nearly two years into its story has been the opportunity to work closely with the folks on our board of directors. They are wonderful people to be around – dynamic, funny, intelligent and genuine – just the sort we need to renew the Spirit of the Valley for another generation. I mention this because I think Steve’s message – contrasting the contrived impulses driving so much of the University’s communication and marketing with the need for “unbuttoned wonder” in our new era of authenticity – and the conviction with which he delivers it, perfectly encapsulate the best qualities of our group. It is no secret that our board includes some of the most vocal detractors of the “Penn State Lives Here” campaign, and I couldn’t be happier to be associated with passionate people with strong ideas who aren’t afraid to speak up when they feel things at Penn State aren’t as good and true as they could, or should, be.
Click play to see what I mean. Steve will probably make you laugh; he’ll definitely make you think.
